I think it depends on how much previous software
the programmer has written in those areas. If the
person is experienced, and has already written
existing software that can be adapted for this new
purpose, the time could be a short as a few days or
a week. If the person has to learn those
areas from scratch, it could take months.
To make it as easy as possible, I would work with
the person to build a clean, narrow interface into my
existing code so the new code could be modular
and as independent as possible.
