Yaniv recently asked me to provide scientific references on the use
of EEG biofeedback. It occurred to me that I might as well post my
reply here in case anyone else is interested.
hi jim
regarding moritz question about scientific papers
validating our claims ,could you help us with this ?
basicly we want to send our design to innovation
contest , to get money for development - and
reputation , and ...
so one of our innovation claims , would be the things
that eeg can do ...
so can you help us with scientific materials on what
it can do ?
even refrences are good , but if a papers are possible
- good .
sincerly
yaniv .
Yaniv--I'd be glad to help with the psychological literature. The
basic papers regarding use of EEG biofeedback for alcoholism and PTSD
are the ones by Peniston and his associates.
Peniston, E. G. & Kulkosky, P. J. (1989). Alpha-Theta brainwave
training and beta endorphin levels in alcoholics. Alcohol Clinical
and Experimental Research, 13, 271-279.
Peniston, E.G. & Kulkosky, P.J. (1991). Alpha-theta brainwave neuro-
feedback therapy for Vietnam veterans with combat-related post-
traumatic stress disorder. Med. Psychother. 4, 47-60.
Peniston, E.G., Marrinan, D.A., Deming, W.A. & Kulkosky, P.J.
(1993). Alpha-theta brainwave synchronization in Vietnam theater
veterans with combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder and
alcohol abuse. Med. Psychother., 6, 37-50.
Saxby, E. & Peniston, E.G. (1995). Alpha-theta brainwave
neurofeedback training: An effective treatment for male and female
alcoholics with depressive symptoms. Journal of Clinical Psychology,
51, 5, 685-693.
Trudeau, D. L. (2000). A review of the treatment of Addictive
Disorders by EEG biofeedback. Clinical Electroencephalography, 31, 13-
26.
There are a number of single-case studies of neurofeedback for
attention deficit disorder, but only a few reporting group data or
employing control groups. There are several interesting papers
available on line in the Journal of Neurotherapy:

The particular articles on treating attention deficit that you might
find most interesting are the following:

None of these addresses seems to have copied as "live" links, so
you'll have to copy and paste them to your browser.
Once again, I may as well post the body of this message to the group
for anyone else interested in this literature. I hope all this proves
useful for you.
