Oh I see. Well, I think if this group wants to make
the device dependent on a sound card, it will certainly
need to write a low-level module for its own use. But
I'm not sure how attractive that idea is, since eventually
the card will get discontinued by its manufacturer.
Basically the group would be getting itself into the
soundcard-driver business -- an ongoing major hassle.
Considering its limited resources, the group
might be better off designing things so the software has
the longest possible shelf life. That means, I think,
confining the really low-level code to the inside of
the EEG machine and running high-level code on the
PC.
