Hi everyone,
Some one had proposed use of a sound card for
acquisition of analog signals. What has been its
fate?
On the face of it, it appears to be wonderful idea to
use a cheap and proven hardware which is unlikely to
become obsolete. As we know, similar proven data
acquisition cards of National Instruments cost
fortune. Ways to circumvent the problem of low
frequency response were also proposed. One of the
members had objection to high sampling rate. That,
infect, is the blessing in disguise. A number of
channels can easily be fed into the PC through Amux
and still maintain the desired sampling rate. This
card also has a much higher resolution than our
existing 10 bit system. Sorry! no intention of
undermining the good work done so far. Even if this
idea is accepted, the electrodes and the signal
conditioners still remain the same.
Initially Yaniv wasn't very keen about it when I
discussed it with him. He, probably, wishes to
concentrate on releasing the first version at the
earliest. But if the idea is to come out with CHEAP
eeg, the utility of sound card cannot be overlooked.
And now that the strength of the group has swelled,
may be some of the members can join hands and work on
it in parallel. This can be incorporated in the next
version.
Let us first form an opinion. Next the problem can be
broken down into parts and offered to different
members who are interested in subtasks.
Cheers,
Praveen
