Re: moving?

Hi

When I proposed a move I had the following points in mind.

1. Having our discussions posted on openeeg.org would attract people
to the site on a regular basis, and look far more professional than
saying on the website "go to yahoo groups to read our discussion".

2. The mailing list is fine for the time being, there are around 10
new posts every day, and it is no problem to read them all. But the
project is picking up. Just look how the monthly messages have
snowballed - 51 in March, 148 in April and 111 by 15 May! As the
project develops and more members take part, this will only get bigger
and I believe we will need a proper discussion forum to separate the
topics into sections for ease of use. For those who haven't seen the
latest breed of discussion forms, check out www.e-budo.com (a martial
arts forum), which I use regularly.

And I do believe the project will get bigger. For a start, it looks
like we may be producing several products - a cheap sound card eeg, a
more expensive eeg with theta capabilities, and others that can do emg
etc. Obviously different people will be working in these different
areas, and they will want to go straight to the discussion that
interests them. Secondly, once the products are being distributed,
users will want to participate in discussions about training methods,
experiences, ideas, etc... yet more topics. I propose that all of
this be contained under the "openeeg" umbrella, and there's no way a
standard mail server (or yahoo! groups) will be able to handle it.

As Rob Sacks has said, Yahoo! Groups is doing fine for now and there
is no urgent need to change the system. But I think we should think
ahead and prepare for what we'll need later. I hope this clarifies
the issue of *why* we should (eventually) move. And yes, "fun" is a
good reason too, Lucas!

Regards

Eric
