There's been no cost determination of either project
as far as I know. Consensus from the hardware crowd is
that possible cost savings using a soundcard won't be
significant and will very much complicate the software
side of the project. Unless a better method of
getting around the soundcard's low frequency response
is found they don't appear to be a viable alternative.
