I have to say, that while I am 100% in suport of this project, I also
strongly believe that people should spend some money, up front, wo rking
with a professional biofeedback practitioner.
Would you go into a university doctoral level chemistry lab and just start
mixing chemicals to try drinking? No!
I think it is important for people getting started with EEG Biofeedback to
get off to a good start with a practitioner who will help them identify the
best 10-20 location on the head, which frequencies to use, and to give the
newbie an idea of what kind of timeframe changes can be expected within.
This way, the home user will also have an axpert available to consult as
home training progresses. ANother important reason to work with a
professional in the beginning is to learn how to attach electrodes, check
to see if there is a good signal, clean electrodes, adjust software, etc.
Some of this could be done by tutorials, but I still think it is wise to
start off with one or two sessions with a practitioner. If a person has
more serious problems, like head injury, or a complicated case, then it is
even more important that a professional be consulted.
If a person just wants to use the EEG to explore consciousness, seek
samdhi, etc, then my concerns are not as great. But I would still advise
the one or two sessions, just like I advise someone starting off learning
downhill skiing to start off with a few lessons. Believe me, less than 2%
of the biofeedback practitioners are making over six figures. Most get by.
They have a lot of wisdom and training that is worth investing in.
