Building an EEG

Hi all!

A little over a year ago, I became interested in building an EEG. I
emailed Tom Collura of Brainmaster, and he sent me the instructions
and schematics for building this device, but I was daunted by the
cost of the equipment needed (laptop PC or other optical isolater,
oscilloscope, function generator, etc.) Well, I am now ready to start
construction, and I was hoping you could give me some advice.

Up until I found this group, I was fully intending to build a
Brainmaster-style EEG. I was able to get my hands on an old 68HC12
B32 MPB, and I figured that with the schematics and 68HC11 firmware
source, it should be fairly easy to piece together.

However, the first problem is that I can't seem to find the firmware
for the 68HC11. My documentation indicates the latest code should be
at ftp://brainmaster.com/pub/brainm/rel17, but this does not appear
to work. Does anyone know a reliable source for BrainMaster software?
Has anyone else tried building a BrainMaster on a 68HC12?

Second, from scanning the postings to this group, it seems that the
RS232EEG is preferred to the BrainMaster. Can you tell me what makes
this design superior? What would it cost to construct an EEG with
this design?

Thanks in advance for any help. If my building an EEG can in any way
contribute to the group, please let me know. I may even be interested
in writing software somewhere down the line, but I need an EEG first!
