Laura, you didn't say what kind of error message you got.
Try this and you will find lots of info on that driver:

This worked for me on Win95
1) Download this driver file
http://www.flash.net/~mortongr/egavga.exe
2) rename egavga.exe egavga.bgi
As far as location of the driver, DOS ignored all of
the windows registry and such. It should work if the
driver is in the same directory as the program. Don't
worry about \windows\system and such. In DOS, it will
look for files as specified in the PATH enviroment
variable. Try typing SET [enter] in a DOS prompt and
you will see the current PATH settings. The proper
way to do this is to put the egavga.bgi driver in a
place that is included in the PATH. On my window95
machine, path defaults to
PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
