Hehe, if you got the right stuff (laser-printer, uv-light, good
ventilation, the proper chemicals (Sodium hydroxide, hydrogen
peroxide and hydrochloric acid), drill and a place to make a mess of)
it's not really that hard. ;-)

Seriously though, a prototyping service is the best choice for most
people. Here's a european alternative: http://www.elprint.com
They have more options through their Macaos-software. For instance,
the price drops if you are prepared to wait a few weeks, and I think
they accept larger lots (more than 20 boards at least). You have to
make a layout to get a qoute, so I'll get back to you on that.

Another suggestion: Joerg has made both boards approximately half the
size of a standard 160x100 mm board (25 square inches category). If
you put them on one PCB, price drops to $16. Not too bad eh? :-)

For $22 we would get the solder-masked and silkscreened version
(option #2).

It should be ok, though personally I'd go for #2. (or actually a
different manufacturer)
