I've found a good engineer's book on DSP which is freely downloadable
in PDF chapters from the 'net:
(The guy also has a book about consciousness and perception which looks
interesting: http://www.innerlighttheory.com/ )
I'm feeling the need to build something. I was searching out on the
'net again for something to buy, and finding all the usual solutions
for $3000 plus.
Is it possible for me to take the input stage off one of the current
designs and plug it into the soundcard audio input, just so that I can
get some live data to play with, even if somewhat distorted ? I
promise not to touch anything live. Just one channel would be enough
to get some testing done. Jim said he reckoned that a soundcard input
could go down to 1Hz, which would be plenty enough to get some testing
done.
A quick test confirms this, more or less -- from line-out on one PC to
line-in on my laptop gives the following amplitudes:
100Hz 32000
10Hz 10000
8Hz 9000
4Hz 6000
2Hz 2000
1Hz 1000
So, I would have alpha, beta and maybe theta to play with. I will
write a simple tool to read the audio input on one machine and fake up
a serial stream to pipe over to the other machine to make it
realistic.
I know Andreas is working hard on a good solid design, but that
circuit is going to require etching and building and beta-testing.
I'd like to knock something together quickly on veroboard.
Any thoughts ? I will consider building any tested input stage that
you think would do the job.
Jim
