Thanks for the positive feedback !
I've just found a bug which explains some of the artefacts I was
seeing, so things are a lot smoother now. (However, I've checked the
area I posted a screenshot of, and that region looks much the same as
it did before). I had truncated the window function by mistake.
Things are now much more as I had imagined they would be, and I am
happier. Perhaps you could detect some uncertainty in my tone before?
There may be other bugs, though -- someone (maybe me) needs to give
this some really critical testing against theory once I've got
something released.

Interesting -- I'll remember these.

You need SDL and FFTW. FFTW is a fast FFT library:
However, I might package up just the source that I need from FFTW
along with the BWView code. I can do that because it's under the GPL,
unlike some of the other fast FFT code out there on the 'net.
Out of all those compilers, MinGW32 would probably be best because
it's a version of GCC. I don't know the build process under Windows,
so I really can't advise you here.
Give me 24 hours or so, and I'll see if I can get this cross-
compilation working. That, at least, will prove that it has no UNIX
dependencies. I don't want to land you with lots of build problems.
