How long did you and your programmer plan "slink12r" before writing any
code??

Again I ask how long did you plan your program and how long did the
programmer plan before any code was written.
We've discussed quite a few concepts with regard to a multifunctional,
expandable piece of open source software.
Now we (or I can't speak for anyone else) have a design in mind so all that
is needed know is the formats to use.
IE
How do I talk to an EEG unit ??
Do I save the information in a format that no one else can use OR do I
choose a well defined one that can be used anywhere?

Jim as an engineer you should see the benefit in good design.
I'm originally a technician by trade (Telecommunications) and in that role
always planned before Jumping straight in! :-)
