Hi
It should not be too long before the website is ready so I think we
should start looking at naming issues quite seriously.
There have been many interesting suggestions for the name of the
website and the name of the hardware, and I would just like to raise a
few points. Please let me know what you all think.
So far, suggestions for the website name have mainly been along the
lines of "cheapeeg.org", "freeware-eeg.org" etc., while in hardware we
have had "braintek", "corticon" and the like. I believe we should fix
ONE name for the entire project, which would apply to the hardware,
the website and our group. This, in my opinion, would look much more
professional than having a product called "braintek" and advertising
it on "cheapeeg.org", which I feel would look patchy and disorganised.
If most of you agree with me so far then my next thought is that the
name should be "friendly". I really believe that we are on to
something big and that if we handle it right we can reach a lot of
people. A very scientific name (I believe the working title is
"RS232EEG") is fine if we are to develop the project for ourselves but
if we want true mass support, a less intimidating name would be more
appropriate. Let's pick something that will be a household name in
1-2 years.
Speaking of reaching people, this week's "New Scientist" has a very
interesting article on neurofeedback. This means that thousands of
readers have just heard of it for the first time. As soon as we have
a website running I will write to the magazine and suggest
that interested people check it out. Talk about perfect timing!
Please all let me know what you think of my suggestions.
Best regards
Eric
