The simplest way to achieve processing of disturbing psychological
material is just to talk about it, discussing it fully and in depth
with someone who is willing to listen sympathetically and ask
questions to help draw you out. Some people also find it helpful to
write about their traumatic memories. As you put these things into
words, you cas shift the nature of the memories from acute, immediate
and painful into a more ordinary sort of memory. However, sometimes
you may run into things that don't clear up when you talk about them,
ar that seem so powerful that you can't bring yourself to discuss
them. In that case you would be best advised to find a good
therapist for one or a few sessions to help you get through it. I
again refer you to my paper, attainable at
www.aapb.org/public/magazine/F00/AAPBmCEF00.html
I think that this article will help answer some of these questions.
