Hi Jim,

Oh shucks, don't feel bad. I'll bet you're not the
only person on this list with an infected hard disk,
not by a long shot.

Since Grant hasn't jumped back in here yet, let me
point out that he said that he identified the "Why
Cheap EEG" virus as the Homepage virus. This is a
brand-new virus that was only discovered by Symantec
on May 8, two days ago.

(So congratulations! You're on the cutting edge!)

The virus you discovered yourself using InoculateIT
is a different virus.

I notice from CA's website that they have updated
InoculateIT to be able to deal with the Homepage
virus (the one Grant found), but I guess it's possible
that the version you just downloaded doesn't include
the update. If you want to check, CA gives the version
numbers you need for this particular virus on this page:

http://ca.com/virusinfo/encyclopedia/descriptions/vbsvbswgx.htm

By the way, it's so easy to protect yourself from viruses,
everybody really ought to take the necessary steps.
Get a good anti-virus program like CA's or Symantec's and
keep it updated; disable scripting in Windows; and
check Microsoft's security updates for IE and Outlook frequently.

If all that is too much work, then just get an anti-virus program
and keep it updated. That alone will keep you safe from 99.99 %
of the viruses out there.

Regards,

Rob
