Re: parallel connection

Agreeing to preserve printer connection , it's good remember that using bus connection ( an
inner card attached to a PC slot ) is the fastest way (parallel ) to connect inputs - and not so expansive as it appears usually . (bigger pieces are just a converter chip (like ADC12030) and
an old interface PIA (like 8255).
AGAINST:
if we use ISA board , not all new computers have one of that available, specially those
with all onboard ( but it seems that one is the least up to now).
most of us study newer buses and are not used to ISA design
PCB with double side , but low density
Old fashioned way

PRO: use PC XT ( for compatibility with all IBMs-like ) the bus design is easy
use the Input Part from RS232EEG before the ADC
cheap -major parts cost < $10.00
good resolution,12 bits,
up to 8 channels with a 8MHz clock (IBM XT) for 128 samp/s/ch

A reason for preferring the serial port over the parallel port, if
bandwidth is sufficient, is that one would like to reserve the
parallel port for a printer, to be used for printing training session
reports, graphs, etc. (generated, one hopes, by the wonderful,
sophisticated software the SW people are creating for us). Of course
one could use the USB or serial port for the printer, but some of the
same objections of Windows specificity, some machines without USB,
etc. arise, and serial printers are also relatively rare. So please
don't take the parallel port from us if you can avoid it.
