I agree with you. I have a HAL-4 and learned a lot from it. I switched tothe HC11 only because I knew it better than the 8051 and had the development tools. It was interesting to find the Brain Master using the HC11.
What are you doing now the board in no longer available?

Done properly, the HAL4 can be set up to perform as
well as anything you have in mind. Set up for 128 s/sec
and a 40+ Hz bandwidth, >100 dB CMRR, I've shipped 60+
ROSHI(AVS) systems, with that board as a basis.
