Agreed absolutely -- claim personal copyright first, then grant a
licence.

Regarding GPL vs Apache licencing -- I'll use the GPL by default, but
if someone can see some good reason at a later stage for a more open
licence, I'm certainly consider changing it.

Apart from the clinical vs non-clinical stuff, are there perhaps laws
that forbid selling a kit to make a device that someone could then
electrocute themselves with if they made a construction mistake ? I
notice Joerg has a big disclaimer in one of his ZIP files.

Probably this varies between countries, and it has probably become
more strict over the years as well.
