Okay, I now have files available to download for Linux and Windows.
Both include binaries, so you won't need to build the source unless
you really want to. For Windows users, building from source is a
mess, and I'd like try and clean up the process a bit before
attempting to give instructions. It's not so bad on Linux.
Both downloads also include Jim-M's files: downey.dat and log001.dat.
I hope he doesn't mind. Also, I haven't worked out all the licence
implications of FFTW and libSDL. I might have to include FFTW/SDL
source in the download, or offer it for download from the same site.
There is one final problem with the Windows version -- it doesn't
display any text on the console, so you can't see the usage
information, and nor can you see the error message if you make a
mistake with the command-line. I don't know what I've done wrong
here. It seems to be putting the output in a file "stderr.txt". It
might be something to do with linking with the SDL libraries. All the
SDL test applications also fail to give console output as expected.
Help would be appreciated here from anyone experienced with building
SDL apps using MinGW.
In both releases, there is a file "TUTORIAL.TXT" which will get you
started and up to speed with the program.
This is not the most tidy of releases -- I would like to tidy up a lot
of things before putting it in a permanent download location.
Here it is for Linux:
http://uazu.net/temp/bwview-0.1.0.tgz
and Windows
http://uazu.net/temp/bwview-0.1.0.zip
Installation instructions are:
- Download and unpack the archive above
- Download and install the SDL 1.2 runtime if you don't have it already:
- Read "TUTORIAL.TXT"
- Run the program with a correct command-line, like:
bwview jm4/130 downey.dat
(Yes, for Windows users this means starting the DOS prompt and moving
to the correct directory. I'm sorry it's so awkward on your OS, but
you could always install a nice shell with history and auto-completion
like that included with MSYS or CygWin).
I hope this covers everything --
Jim
P.S. I'm also planning to add a 'contrast' control to allow you to
increase or reduce the amount of visible depth in the display.
