Very similar design to that one I've proposed. :-)

As we are running along similar lines I home we can come to a GREAT design.
I've had a quick read of your design (Bit pushed for time today) one thing I
will say is
"Don't restrict yourself to Linux"
It is a great platform for all the reasons you said but it doesn't have a
big enough audience so we are going to miss out on a lot of "hackers"
writing modules for the library. Which is very counter productive.
In my opinion it'd be better to it'd be better to stay away from Linux
specific code (eg KDE libraries) and write code that can be cross compiled
like Jim P. has done!

Yep I agree 2 cheers to Jim for a great bit of software!!!
