That is part of the current EDF. This stuff is in the header for standard
electrode placements.

That is part of the current EDF.

I hope I am not confusing these things with extensions to EDF that I saw
somewhere.

Personally, if EDF doesn't have any significant shortcomings, I would vote
for it. For a 2 channel file with 1 extra annotation channel for events
etc. the header is only 1K.
