If you're asking my opinion, as if I wasn't involved with the
situation, I would say you would be crazy to wait for Jim-P to get
some compiler working on Windows (an untested platform for GCJ) --
it's just too big an unknown. It would be better to concentrate on
what we've got.
However, this doesn't mean that Jim-P is going to stop working on it.
Somehow my faith was shaken when the only two people who spoke up to
say that they would be able to contribute serious amounts of time to
the software were Andreas and Dave, and both of them prefer C++. In
fact Dave has never even looked at Java.
However, looking at C++ source again just convinces me how much I
personally want another solution.
I also looked at Glib and GTK+, which are based on C not C++, so in
theory I could write code in C using object-oriented features.
I really don't know what is the best way forwards, but right now I'm
still looking into GCJ. I'm sorry I can't give strong assurances and
a clearer lead on all of this.
It is strange how we are such a diverse group, and there is no obvious
way to approach all of this. Well, it is obvious if half of the group
drop out, but I don't think that counts.
Jim
P.S. By the way, I'm ill with 'flu right now, which is not helping.
Forgive me if it sounds like I'm talking nonsense.
