you know more about this than I do but multiplexing seems doable (back to the
soundcard issue) if at the "black box" end there's some sort of marker (0v?)
between channels and at the computer end you are sampling fast enough to spot
the marker and thus recognize channels.

what ARE the overall costs for the current project?
have electrodes been chosen?
cabling?
enclosue?
seems like we need to move along in these areas to get towards
costing and producing the project.
