Hiya John,
Before we decide the Stage 1 output format, I'd like to
see the output protocols for more machines including
different types of machines.
With the three machines I've seen so far, there is a single
series of numbers per channel, and time stamp info doesn't
have to be passed to Stage 2 because the numbers are
collected at constant time intervals.
I don't know if these two things are true of all EEG machines
or other types of machines. I don't want to make any false
assumptions.
Also, about the file stuff --
I wouldn't necessarily assume we want to
use this format as a disk image, because I learned while
writing ElectricGuru that users want to save and write
a variety of existing file formats including ASCII. Also,
they want to be able to save in a variety of precisions to
trade off disk space vs. accuracy. So I think the file stuff
has to be separate to allow it to be made more elaborate.
Best regards,
Rob

Subject: [buildcheapeeg] SOFTWARE: Input Stage -> Processing (data Stream)
OK I have very little understanding of how the current EEG machines communicate with computer. But by some deductive reasoning my guess is that theRS232 varieties send a series of bytes to the computer.
OK So one of the interfaces needed is a STANDARD format for this stream as is passes out of stage 1 (input/hardware interface) and into Stage 2 (processing/filtering/etc).
So for those in the know (Rob?) what can you suggest would be the right way to go?
Remember this will have to cover ALL EEG (and maybe ECG) hardware that wemay connect up to the machine.
Also this stream may be redirected as a RAW data dump by the program and at a later data feed back in for processing.
OK it's 1:30AM I hope that makes sense. :-)
