Just one thought here: My interest is in altered states, 'body
awareness' (i.e. awareness energetically from the body as a unit
rather than from individual receptors such as eyes and skin or
whatever), and stuff like that. I'm also interested in delegating
everything I possibly can to other parts of my being, because they do
the job so much better than me ('me' being my conscious awareness).
That way I keep my brain just for overseeing the whole thing and
"correcting the path".

For that reason I'm interested in the oldest parts of the being, and
particularly in the energy body, which in my current level of
understanding I see as connected to the physical body in the belly
(this being the centre of the body -- I know the Chinese put a Tan
Tien there as well, although I'm not sure if this is related). That
by my interpretation is the gateway to all kinds of unusual things.
These areas to me are connected with lower frequency brain waves.

I know Jim-M has found some fantastic results (from what he's
described) from going to the other extreme, i.e. by increasing the
activity of the most highly conscious part of his being, by increasing
levels of 40Hz waves and so on. Perhaps this explains his interest in
the highly conscious areas of the brain.

However, I felt it was worth pointing out that this is not likely to
be whole story, just to keep a balance here.

Also, I think it is useful to see a correspondance with quantum
mechanics again here. In quantum mechanics, a high energy particle
has high frequency, and also is very focussed in space and time. It
is called "particle-like". This corresponds to 40Hz waves and to
Jim's tennis technique.

However, a low energy particle has low frequency and its position is
very undefined in time and space. It is like a field of probability,
and it is called "wave-like". To me this corresponds to low frequency
brain waves, and with states in which you can sense things further
away than your immediate boundaries -- i.e. where you are spreading
yourself out in time and space (e.g. mediums, OOBEs, whatever).

It is also interesting to note that all the weird quantum effects
(like having probability-waves that effectively try many possibilities
at once, and then collapse to just one only when you look at them)
only occur for wave-like particles. This to me corresponds with all
the strange phenonema you can read about in Castaneda's books and
elsewhere, like relocating your body and stuff like that. So long as
you don't give it any conscious attention (which would lock the thing
back into particle-like behaviour), all kinds of weird things seem
possible.

Note that I've experienced a good load of weird things, but more by
luck than anything else (mostly by interacting with ususual people and
unusual situations), and I am by no means enough in control of my own
state to really test this all out. This is just my way of making
sense of what I've experienced and read so far, and I offer it as one
possible viewpoint that might have some value to some people.

Bear in mind I might be completely wrong on all of this.
